A multidisciplinary group of researchers at Dexeus Mujer have carried out an extensive study to evaluate the impact of adenomyosis in women undergoing IVF treatment. In total, a sample of 3503 patients undergoing their first frozen blastocyst transfer through a frozen embryo transfer cycle with hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was analysed. Of these, 140 women had a confirmed diagnosis of adenomyosis based on the criteria of the MUSA consensus group (ultrasound assessment of uterine morphology).

The results show that patients with adenomyosis were more likely to undergo a frozen embryo transfer compared to women without adenomyosis and more likely to receive pre-treatment with GnRH agonists. Also, the presence of adenomyosis significantly decreased clinical pregnancy and live birth rates and significantly increased miscarriage rates.
