Anna Seriola holds a joined PhD from Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) and Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona (UAB) in stem cells biology and genetics.
She co-founded the group of Bioengineering in Reproductive Health, which is the first Open Innovation Lab initiative of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalunya (IBEC) in Barcelona, Spain. The Open Innovation lab is a new concept to accelerate the transition of basic science towards the clinics and the industry through a public institution aTnd private funding. She specialized in the area of reproductive health and the development and implementation of new technologies to the field of reproductive medicine.
Currently, she is the senior scientist of the Open Innovation Lab at IBEC and the co-founder of IVFTechnology S.L. Her role as Senior researcher is to lead the development, implementation, and commercialization of novel techniques towards improving the success rate of in-vitro fertilization procedures and cell culture.
Her research is focused on the combination of advanced live imaging techniques with bioengineering methods to develop ex vivo systems that support embryo culture beyond the implantation step in highly physiological conditions.
Her technology has resulted in several patents all of them licensed either by the pharma industry or biotech companies.
